Just once in a while, something comes along that restores your faith in parliamentary democracy. The Government comes out with an ill-judged, illiberal and unwise piece of legislation that erodes our basic rights in a knee-jerk reaction to terrorism; and [then parliament votes it down](http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk%5Fpolitics/4422086.stm?ref=onemanandhisblog.com).
