![Blognation Logo](https://i2.wp.com/www.onemanandhisblog.com/content/images/2007/12/logo_world.gif?resize=241%2C46)It must be a rule or something. If it’s time for [Le Web 3](http://www.leweb3.com/?ref=onemanandhisblog.com), it’s time for a Sam Sethi controversy. This time last year, he was the apparent victim, [crashing out of a working relationship with Mike Arrington and Techcrunch](http://www.onemanandhisblog.com/archives/2006/12/le%5Fweb%5F3%5Fsam%5Fse.html?ref=onemanandhisblog.com). This year, one of his bloggers on Blognation has very publicly departed with [a long open letter](http://us.blognation.com/2007/12/05/an-open-letter-to-sam-sethi/?ref=onemanandhisblog.com), still visible on the site, and [reproduced on Techcrunch](http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/12/05/blognation-meltdown-writers-never-paid-promises-not-kept/?ref=onemanandhisblog.com).

Allegedly, Sam has not only not been paying his bloggers, but he lacks the funding he claimed he had. I haven’t found a direct response from Sam, but will link to any that emerge, and he has offered *The Guardian*‘s [Jemima Kiss](http://jemimakiss.com/?ref=onemanandhisblog.com) his [side of the story](https://web.archive.org/web/20071213080441/http://twitter.com/ssethi/statuses/471862982) over Twitter.

It will be interesting to watch this develop over the next few hours, and it’ll give us something to talk about in Paris…

**Update:** The departing blogger, Oliver Starr, has [the letter up on his own blog](https://web.archive.org/web/20071207152830/http://owstarr.com/2007/12/05/an-open-letter-to-sam-sethi/).

**Update 2:** Sam has [left a comment](https://web.archive.org/web/20071207124606/http://www.techcrunch.com/2007/12/05/blognation-meltdown-writers-never-paid-promises-not-kept/#comment-1811612#comment-1811612) on the Techcrunch post.

**Update 3:** Nicole Simon [posts about the situation](https://web.archive.org/web/20071220053320/http://crueltobekind.org/archive/2007-12-05/my%5Fcomment%5Fon%5Folivers%5Fpost%5Fabo), telling a similar, but more measured, tale to Oliver’s.

**Update 4**: Debi Jones posts [a lyrical account](https://web.archive.org/web/20071206122528/http://mobilejones.com/2007/12/05/blognation-the-bloggers-prelude-and-tale/) of her Blognation experiences. The anti-Sam posts are mounting up.

**Update 5:** [Tris Hussey, a Blognation Canada editor](http://www.larixconsulting.com/2007/12/05/no-comment/?ref=onemanandhisblog.com), is saying “no comment” – apart from the fact that he is “excited and supports blognation”.
