From Jason Snall’s transcript of [Apple CEO Tim Cook’s remarks](http://sixcolors.com/post/2015/07/its-tim-what-apples-ceo-told-analysts/?ref=onemanandhisblog.com) in the earnings call last night:

> We’ve already signed 25 leading publishers representing more than 75 of the world’s most influential news, sports, business, and magazine titles, including CNN, the New York Times, the Financial Times, ESPN, Bloomberg Business, Conde Nast, Hearst, Reuters, Time Inc., and the Daily Telegraph.

It’ll be interesting to learn what “signed” means in this context, as anyone with a site and an RSS feed can apply for membership. [I’m “in” Apple News](http://www.onemanandhisblog.com/archives/2015/06/newsstand-remind-me-what-that-was-again.html?ref=onemanandhisblog.com), for example.

- Have they got early access to [Apple News Format](https://developer.apple.com/library/prerelease/ios/documentation/General/Conceptual/News%5FPublishing%5FGuide/index.html?ref=onemanandhisblog.com#//apple%5Fref/doc/uid/TP40015407-CH3-SW1)?
- Have they got revenue deals?
- Have they got promotional deals?

Bears watching…
