Getting started with social video editing
The basics of building a social video
Table of Contents
Hello, all,
I'm recommending you get started with Adobe Premiere Rush. It's available on all platforms, can sync between them, and is designed for quick and easy social video editing. If you get more serious about social video, you can actually take your Rush Projects to Premier Pro, for more advanced editing.
Here's were you can grab a copy:
They'll try to sell you the Adobe Express plan - but all you need is the free version and a free Creative Cloud account.
However, feel free to use any editing app you're comfortable with.
Here's a walk-through of making a basic, square-format social video in Rush. I've included the sample clips and photos below, along with some reading, so you can have a go at doing your own version of the video.

There are some great resources and videos of individual elements of Premier Rush on the Adobe site, which is one of the reasons it's a good place to start:

Other Apps:
Here's some other app that work for social video editing.
- Lumafusion (iOS & Android) — my actual favourite editor. I do 90% of my video editing (including the course videos) in this app on my iPad.
- Capcut (cross-platform) — we'll talk about this later in the course. Great for social video, but it is an app from Bytedance, so the China warning applies here.
- Canva (cross platform) — the perennial favourite graphic design app has a social video maker as well.
- Quik (cross platform) — GoPro's video editor is surprisingly capable.
