Where do journalism students get their news?

They sure aren't wedded to print any more.

Where do journalism students get their news?

The world has changed since the days when you had a class full of MA Newspaper students whose dream was to be ink-stained wretches, working on the print edition. I had first contact with the latest cohort of them this afternoon, and as part of the session I did a quick online poll about how they got their news.

The result is above.

Print, you're not doing great. The prevalence of apps is interesting, with Apple News, the BBC and The Guardian all mentioned. I suspect I don't talk enough about apps in the audience strategy module - one to address next term.

Interestingly, I specifically asked about “news”. I now find myself wondering if this would look different if I'd asked about “journalism”. One for another session, perhaps?

Anyway, here's some further reading for them (and you!) about the way journalism is shifting.
