A personal note

Or why arguing with lampposts is a mug's game

A man's legs and feet on a gurney in a hospital.

Hello, folks, I just wanted to give a quick admin update on why things have been a little quiet around here. Originally, it was because we were in the final weeks of teaching at City St George's, and that tends to consume all my time, as students prepare for important assessments.

I was planning on coming back strong after the Easter weekend, but then something rather unfortunate happened. I argued with a lamppost, and lost convincingly. I tripped over a kerb, windmilled into a lamppost. taking the brunt of the impact on my forehead and left eye. I ended up in the Bristol Royal Infirmary with part of my skull showing, being patched up by the very skilled maxillofacial team there.

Up until the last 24 hours, any extended screen work hasn't really been possible, as my left eye slowly recovers from the damage done. I'm also getting used to routinely wearing glasses again, as contact lenses are only going to be feasible again once my eye heals fully. I have a very small fracture in the orbit around the eye, but the trauma team have concluded that it is minor enough to be safe to let heal on its own.

I am now able to spend time on the screen, and hopefully I'll post as and when I can. I certainly need distraction from the slow and somewhat painful healing process.

So, my apologies for the silence. I hope you'll understand.

And I advise not picking fights with lampposts. Turns out they're complete bastards.

As you can see, I'm not exactly what you'd call a pretty picture at the moment:
