I’ve been quiet on LinkedIn, which has largely replaced Twitter/X as the place for metajournalism discussion. Why? Well, partially, because I’ve been really busy, between lecturing, a great mentoring project, and sorting out the details for some forthcoming in-house training and workshops.
Oh, God. That sounds like one of those humble-brag LinkedIn posts now, doesn't it? I'm deeply self-conscious about them, thanks to reading Robin Rendle’s Song of LinkedIn, and now I just can’t take the place seriously:
The song confirms your existing beliefs with words that are brave and controversial because, man, they just don’t get it. They’re so dumb! Their whole business is lagging behind! Whose business? Behind whom? Whom knows! The Song of LinkedIn doesn’t care. All it cares about is making you feel like insights are happening to you when really I’m just being a dick by making you feel like a dick for not being as big a dick as me.
Synergy!
Read the whole thing– and never look at LinkedIn quite the same way again…
